On March 14, 2011, I started a challenge that was to end tomorrow. The goals of the challenge were to keep my my calorie deficit above 750, my activity above 45 minutes, to report my food accurately every day and to make daily entries to this blog.

Today I am reporting the final stats. I am reporting today since I had some oral surgery yesterday and won't be able to workout. I am also not able to do the spicy lemonade fast for awhile since I can't have acidy or spicy foods until my mouth heals.

My average calorie deficit for the 46 day period was 546, average minutes of activity was 46. I reported accurately and blogged every day. On March 14th, I weighed 240. Today I weighed 235.

My weight during the period flucuated as high as 247 and as low as 233.

While I am feeling good that I didn't quit trying to meet the challenge goals, I feel pretty low about my weight loss efforts. I don't really do a very good job sticking to what I know will help me lose weight. I keep the charts. I log my food, I go to the gym. What I don't do is eat less. I just keep eating too much.

I started dieting in October. Seven months ago I started using the armband and the site. Seven months ago I started logging my food and exercise. I have been faithful about that. I weighed 260 when I started. I've lost 25 pounds. I can see how some people might think that's great. I guess it is, but I haven't lost anything significant in months.

I feel very discouraged. I feel angry at myself. I feel like I'll never be able to conquer this issue.

I didn't manage to make it back into the fast yesterday. Today will be rough as well for fasting. We are having a potluck at work and I will be literally surrounded by food all day. I would really like to give it another shot, but there always seems to be something getting in the way. I feel confident that I'll be able to try again (and make it stick), but today's not the day. My plan is to eat very little and avoid all the goodies.

I had a good defict yesterday, it was 968. My weight is still steady at 235.

I'm having a hard time getting back into the actual fast. I'm doing very well in regard to a calorie deficit, but ever since Saturday night, I keep having small amounts of whatever it is that's around. I am, of course, recording it.

My calorie deficit was 1,482 yesterday. I had a good workout at the gym. My weight is steady at 235.

I'm going to try to get started with the fast again today ...

I haven't fasted the past two days, but my calorie deficit has been good. Yesterday I had a defict of 1,103. In the last 7 days, my deficit has been 11,140. This morning, I weighed 235. Last Monday, I weighed 245.

I'm feeling good about what I accomplished over the last week. I realize that a portion of what I lost over the last week is water. That's fine with me. The fast helped me control my intake and I felt good during it.

Don't worry, I'm not quitting my efforts. This morning, I'm starting fresh. I am going to drink the sea salt water, flush my system, and get back to drinking the spicy lemonade. I'm heading to the gym in the afternoon.

Happy Easter! I hope that your Easter day is wonderful!

Well, I fell of the fasting wagon last night, but not to a huge degree. I did fine all day, even though my tummy very VERY empty. The problem came after work. The grandkids spent the night and when I fixed them dinner, I ate 6 fish sticks and had a small scoop of mashed potatoes. I guess it was the stress of increased activity and well, 3 kids under the age of 8!!

The good news is that my calorie deficit was still excellent at 1,388.

I'm back to it today, though.

Heels!


So, I got a pair of Vera Wang heels today.  Something i would normally NEVER buy!  I can't wait to wear them.  Perhaps i will wear them to work tomorrow!

Day 5 was another good day. I stayed on track despite urges at several points during the day.

At work, I had a pretty intense desire for potato chips (of all things!). I called my sister and she talked me down. Later, I went to the grocery store with my husband. All the food looked and smelled so good, but I managed to avoid things. The smells of things are what gets to me. Prepared fried chicken, bread from the bakery, the smell of fresh fruit ... all very tempting!

My deficit was amazing again, a whopping 1,629!

323!

I hit the 75 pounds lost mark today!  I am so excited that I have been able to get motivated again and keep going with the healthy lifestyle.  Diana, thank you for being my buddy in this journey!  You have helped me tremendously!

Yesterday was a good day. I experienced no dizziness; I had no weakness or lack of energy. I did have a brief period of hunger, but it went away.

Michael eats right in right of me and it's fine. I'm interested in what he's having but manage to not beg for a bite or two.

I seem to be going through maple syrup at the rate of about 50 ounces a week and am using about 5 lemons each day. The way I figure, the fast is a money saver, too! I'm spending about $25.00 a week.

I'm losing weight like crazy, naturally. I know that much of the loss is water at this point. My guess is that by Monday, my weight will reflect what I've lost more realistically.

All in all, it's going pretty well.

I had another good day as far as my calorie deficit was concerned. My defict was 1,439! It wasn't as high as the first two days because I didn't go to the gym.

I didn't feel as well yesterday as I did the first two days. My stomach was upset and felt very "blah." I had a hard time getting the lemonade down. I took the advice in the booklet and stuck with, but took it easy.

Day 2 went well. I had another massive deficit. I experienced some hunger between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. But it wasn't that bad. My workout was fine.

Check out the deficit!

I made it through the first day of my Master Cleanse fast with flying colors! I drank 8 servings of the spicy lemonade. It wasn't that bad at all, and I honestly wasn't hungry. I had the desire to eat, but the desire wasn't physical.

I did the salt water flush (1 quart water with 2 teaspoons non-iodized sea salt). I drank it in about 5 minutes.

My gym visit was fine. I had plenty of energy.

I slept great last night, too! You'll see the sleep numbers tomorrow, they are always a day behind.

All in all, a very successful first day. 34 more to go!

Today's the day I start the Master Cleanse fast. I made 8 servings of the lemonade; I am allowed up to 10. I am also supposed to do a salt water flush this morning and drink laxative tea in the morning and evening. I'm sticking close to home today in case the results are not favorable. The lemonade is very low in calories; 8 servings have less than 900 calories. I am hoping to last 5 weeks!

I had a nice day yesterday working in the yard with Michael. We got a lot accomplished and I got in some good activity numbers! My deficit was also pretty good yesterday.

I bought everything I'll need for the Master Cleanse. I'm very excited to start on Monday. I'll be drinking the lemonade, tea and water. I'm hoping to make it 5 weeks.

Yesterday I had another pretty good deficit. That's two days in a row above 400!

Today I'm really hurting, though! In addtion to the trunk and core exercizes, I added using the ab wheel two days ago. It must have put some unwelcome strain on my old arthritic hips because today I can barely walk. I am in some serious pain! I am definately skipping the gym today.

I will be searching for more trunk and core activities.

I got the book describing the Master Cleanse fast in the mail today. I will start on Monday. I have to get the supplies and prepare myself. He recommends fasting for between 10 and 40 days using the lemonade and tea. You come off the fast slowly using fruit and vegetables for two days before returning to your regular diet.

Tuesday numbers


My intake was 1766 for the day.  I am not sure what my burn was.  I believe it was probably around 3k.  So, excellent day.  Today is another great day.  Next week, Dianna starts her master cleanse.  I will be doing my norm.  I try to stay under 2k intake but above 1500.  Most days this not hard.  It just takes some planning. 

Tomorrow, i am on a second grade field trip.  That should be fun!  Friday i think i am going to just sleep!  I am very tired this week.

I had a good workout at the gym yesterday. I have been walking, resistence training and concentrating on finding some exercizes that really target my core. Crunches don't do it! The large exercize ball and a few other things really seem to make a difference. I'm feeling a tightening in my middle!

We had spaghetti for dinner last night. I measured the pasta and the sauce to make sure that I knew exactly how much I was getting. I think that I'd do better if I consistently measured. I even measured the parmesan cheese!

Gee! I really wish I could get a run of good days going! Again, I need to do more than just "wish!"

Went up to Tracy's for dinner last night and to pick up some appliances. Thanks, Tracy!! She took Michael and I to Ruby Tuesday. We all had the salad bar. IT was fun to meet her kids; they are really great kids!

Furthering my plans to try the Master Cleanse fast. Michael is supportive, but then, he's ALWAYS supportive when I want to try something.

I had a good day yesterday!I went thrift store shopping with my mom and sisters. We had a great time and I got lots of steps in. I also made good food choices. My deficit was 1,017!!

I ordered a copy of a book that outlines a fasting routine. It's called the "Master Cleanser." It's cayenne pepper, lemon juice and maple syrup taken 5 times a day. You are also supposed to do a saltwater or laxative tea flush. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to give it a shot. I'll let you know more when the book comes.

I had a good calorie burn yesterday. I just wish that I could get my consumption down. My nagging problem. My Achilles heel. My fatal flaw. I have a hard time not eating too much.

It's been almost 6 months since I started wearing the BodyMedia armband. I've certainly gotten the information that I need; I understand what I need to do. I do everything except the most important thing -- cut back on my consumption.

On the plus side, I really believe that if I hadn't gotten the armband and used the site religiously, I would have gained weight. I am pretty sure that I'd weigh more than the 260 I started at in October.

I have to do more than "wish" I would stop eating so much.

Back to work tomorrow! Boo! Hiss! We've had a nice week off, even though we didn't get to go camping. Today, I'm taking my dad to the hospital for a little out patient surgery, going to the gym, and going toan Army surplus store with Michael.

We went to the Wexner Center yesterday to see an exhibit and then out to lunch at a Middle Eastern place. The exhibit was wonderful!! The food was wonderful!!

I went to the gym early in the day, otherwise I would have been showing a overage. As it turned out, I had a good day. Walking around campus in addition to my workout gave me an excellent calorie burn!

One of the things I would like to change about my body is the excess weight I carry around my middle. I am definately an "apple shape." I regularly do lots of crunches when I workout, but my abs NEVER get sore. Last week, I started trying to do trunk and core strengthening exercizes with the large ball. Now we're talking! After getting a set of four different exercizes down (it does take some practice!), I'm happy to report that I'm finally feeling some tightening in my core. If you've never tried using the ball, I suggest it. It really does give a good workout!

We got Michael's mom on the plane early in the morning and she made it safely to California yesterday. The whole experience was rather trying! We spent the rest of yesterday just laying around.

I did venture out to a local chicken place to buy an Amish raised chicken for dinner. People have been telling me that the chickens are very good and taste lots better than grocery store chickens. They are free range, drug free, and fed a vegetarian diet. They are never frozen. Surprizingly, they don't cost that much more than chickens from a grocery store. I paid $1.37 per pound for a small fryer and $3.50 for boneless breasts.

I followed a simple recipe and it was delicious!

Here's the recipe: Turn oven to 425 degrees and place a cast iron skilet (I used a cast iron casserole dish) in the oven with a 1/4 inch of oil. Place chicken breast side down and use poultry shears to completely remove the backbone. Season with salt and pepper. Place chicken, breast side down in the HOT cast iron pan, in butterfly position. Cook 20 minutes. (I loosened the chicken so it didn't stick partway though the cooking process). After 20 minutes, turn it over and cook 15 minutes. Very simple and very good!!

I did well Monday.  I did not do as well as i wanted but did well cosidering i ate meatloaf and mashed potatoes for dinner.

I did it... I had a decent day!  Woohooo!  I could do better but not too terribly awful.  I will be working on keeping the calories in down again today.  I started off with a Myoplex.  I need to get my oatmeal cooked up again.  I might start eating that for lunch on work days.  I also found tuna packets that are already made into tuna salad.  Each packet makes a nice hardy sandwich and is only 100 calories.  I am going to hunt down some low cal bread and have that for lunch sometimes too!

My weight today is 240. I'm not really sure why I gained a pound this last week, but that's what my scales say. Over the past 7 days, I had a deficit of 3,128. That should be good for a pound, at least. I guess I'll have to try harder ...

I'm planning on going to the gym every day this week. Being off work until Friday will make it hard to watch my calorie consumption. The structure of going to work always helps me. I will try, though. Better to try than to give up, right??

Yesterday I had a deficit of 527 and moderate activity of 1:05. I reported all my food accurately.

I brought my lunch... tuna and bread as well as apple sauce.  I have 2 Myoplex drinks to hold me over until lunch.  Should be a good day!  I know water is going to be an issue.  That truely is the key to dieting.  If i am craving... it is almost always because i have not had enough water.

We have had to make some adjustments to our vacation. Because we need to be available to go get Michael's mom and take her to the airport so she can travel to California for her brother's funeral, we won't be able to go camping. We are going to pick her up tomorrow afternoon and she'll stay here Monday night. Her plane leaves at 7:00 am on Tuesday morning. We were planning to leave yesterday or today and camp until Thursday. We just can't do that anymore.

Instead, we'll be staying in town and doing some fun things locally. Yesterday, we went to the Ohio Historical Center and walked around looking at the exhibits. I was especially interested in their latest exhibit "Controvery." When we left the display area, I was stopped and asked if they could interview me. I agreed. It was a very interesting exhibit and I really liked the way they had set it up. It was also very cool to be interviewed.

Afterwards we did some grocery shopping and hung out at home. I made my famous spicy chicken wings for dinner. All in all a very nice day!

I squeaked out a deficit and got some good steps in. The day didn't include a visit to the gym. I had lots of high-fat food yesterday, so my calorie intake was high. Honestly, I didn't even try to diet yesterday. I had sausage gravy and biscuit for breakfast, cookies and a latte at the musuem, and chicken wings with celery and bleu cheese for dinner.

Today, we're going to the gym and then to movie in the afternoon. I am planing my food out this morning and will have a better day today!

Birthday...


Today is my 44th birthday.   What is the best present I can give myself?  A healthy body!   will not be dieting today but will be planning for the week.  I will be talking to you tomorrow now that I have my phone set up so that I can post.  Now, I just need the buetooth version of the armband.  I would be completely mobile then.  One can dream....

Yesterday was very challenging for me. It seemed like I couldn't stop thinking about food. I walked through the cafeteria and by all the vending machines at each of my breaks and at lunch. I never bought anything, but I couldn't help but look. At my desk, I thought about what I wanted to eat all day long.

In the evening, I went to my sister's for a little birthday party for my niece. There was ice cream cake, chips, dip, and candy. I had ONE BITE (really) of ice cream cake and ONE gummy bear (really).

Despite my efforts, I had an overage. Poor choices at dinner and late night snack tipped me over.

I guess it could have been worse ...

Calorie excess = 175. Moderate activity = 32 minutes. Food accurately logged and reported.

I am mobile!


I have a new ap to post to the blog.  I will hopefully get to post more frequently.  I am going to start a new one more time on Monday.  Actually, i will most likely begin on Sunday.  I have got to build some momentum.  It only takes about 3 good days in a row.  That will be my short term goal.... in the meantime, i am going to have some wine tonight.

My numbers from yesterday were definately the best thing about yesterday. A great many things went wrong yesterday -- a death in Michael's family, a REALLY bad haircut for me, Michael has bronchitis and we're putting off our camping trip until Monday, I snapped at a co-worker ...

At least my numbers were okay. I had a deficit of 569. Moderate activity = 35 minutes and I accurately reported and logged my food.

Today is my last of work for a week. Yippee! I'm planning on enjoying my time off!
